A Notary Public is an official appointed by the Secretary of State and authorized to serve the public as an unbiased witness. We are not attorneys and cannot give legal advice.
A California Notary Public must:
1) Identify signer(s)
2) Ensure signer(s) know what they are signing, are of sound mind, and are not being forced
3) Confirm documents are complete, with no blanks, and no missing pages.

How to prepare for your appointment...
1) Make sure you have valid, unexpired California ID/Driver License or US Passport. Anything else, discuss with Notary prior to appt.
2) Fill out your document, all of it. Notaries are required to see all pages and ensure they are complete, prior to notarizing.
3) Don't sign, the Notary needs to witness.
4) Signers cannot be coerced and must be of sound mind. If this is questionable, your Notary will stop the signing and refuse to witness.
